About/Story: FOOD:MUSIC

Food and music go hand-in-hand.

A one-person catering business is like performing in a one-man band.

Chefs : Musicians

Kitchens : Bands

Teams of artists working together to create something for the senses

Food for tasting

Music for listening

In music, notes make chords, chords make songs, songs make a performance

In cooking, ingredients make a dish, dishes make a meal, a meal makes an experience

Both arts strive to move people, to make them feel an emotion

You learn a lot about yourself practicing these arts as well

Even as a child, I wanted to invent something

I’d daydream about the next “cool thing” or gadget

But I also knew how hard it is to make something genuinely new and unique

Who knew I’d finally realize those daydreams in a kitchen?

At its best, cooking is not merely a skill

It’s also an art form whose works can be interpreted in many ways

In any art, there is a challenge to doing simple things well

To free oneself from overthinking and over-complicating

I’ve released music as part of the band Queens County Roots – but never a song of my own

I’ve cooked meals for countless events – but never a product of my own

So!

Cacio Pop is the first “song” in my new repertoire of snacks – simple, done well

Using a recipe that includes childhood memories of selling plain popcorn at my family’s stoop sale in Park Slope

The emotion this artwork will leave you with is ‘satisfied’. Enjoy!
